In the decades since being introduced to quality fine art paper by his first art teacher in England, materiality has remained at the core of Ian Friend's practice. The new paintings on display at this exhibition are inspired by a book by British writer and filmmaker Iain Sinclair which details the reconstruction of land for the 2012 London Olympic Games - ghost milk was a term used by Sinclair to describe the polluted outflow from the Olympic building sites that carried years of embedded toxic waste into surrounding rivers. The exhibition includes a work on beautifully preserved 1936 Whatman paper.
