Jan Brown, one of Canberra’s most distinguished artists, has always been inspired by living creatures. This exhibition will feature many drawings and works on paper from the artists’ private collection dating from the mid 1960’s onwards. As an avid arts activist, Jan has served on numerous major arts advisory councils and arts boards in Canberra, is a member of the Order of Australia and an Emeritus Fellow of the Australia Council. Her work is represented in many collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Artbank and the National Library of Australia and in Canberra she has two significant bronze public art installations: the kangaroos situated by the Nerang pool, Commonwealth Park (1981), and the ‘Icarus’ group of sculptures in Petrie Plaza, Civic (2009).
