Between the Hours features eight major works by artist Jason Cordero, including his winner of the 2010 John Leslie Art Prize The Pillars of Wind and The Darkness of Day, which won the John Leslie people's choice award in 2012. Cordero is well known for his epic and monumental paintings, which are filled with expectation, enlightenment, tyranny and despair. He presents the natural world at its most dramatic, often with brewing storm clouds and searing mountaintops. Rather than showing the natural world as it is, Cordero visually imagines a world that has just been created – or nearing its end.
