Jason Wing wins Parliament of NSW Aboriginal Art Prize 2012 - Art Collector
|6 November 2012 | Jason Wing has won the $40,000 Parliament of New South Wales Aboriginal Art Prize 2012 for his bronze bust of Captain Cook wearing a black balaclava titled Australia was Stolen by Armed Robbery (pictured right).|
The judging panel consisted of Tina Baum, Aboriginal and Torres Strait art curator at the National Gallery Australia; Nici Cumpston, associate curator of Australian paintings, sculptures and Indigenous art at the Art Gallery of South Australia; and artist Merv Bishop.
Wing belongs to the Biripi language group, and his art is noted for exploring issues surrounding bicultural, environmental and spiritual awareness and Indigenous identity.
The award exhibition will tour selected New South Wales regional galleries until mid 2013.
