17 July 2012 | Adelaide’s Samstag Museum of Art is staging a 70-year survey of the work of painter Jeffrey Smart.

The exhibition has been put together in partnership with Carrick Hill and the Tarrawarra Museum of Art.

Master of Stillness features 60 works, drawn from loans from Australia and internationally.

Carrick Hill, the home of Smart’s friends and patrons the Haywards, presents a selection of archival material and the artist’s early work produced in Adelaide during the 1940s, while Samstag presents works created by Smart in Sydney from 1951 and later in Italy, where he still resides.

Master of Stillness: Jeffrey Smart paintings 1940 - 2011 opens 11 October and continues until 14 December 2012.
