Jennifer Goodman’s practice has always explored spatial relationships, colour theory and the history of abstraction. Whilst she once observed a dedicated exploration of gridded abstractions in a multitude of variations, as her work evolved, she began to move away from the constraints of the grid and move towards a freer-form, allowing her shapes to intuitively move and bend, overlap and swerve.

In Goodman’s previous exhibition counter-current, each painting was developed with a companion piece which had a dialogue with its counterpart, much like a call and response sequence in a musical composition. These works signalled a departure from her rigorous focus on geometry and gridded abstractions.

This exhibition features a number of Goodman’s collage works which offer an intimate glimpse into the workings of the larger paintings they resemble.
