Jerzy Michalski:The Maze - Art Collector

Like many of us, Jerzy is an immigrant to these shores. After a distinguished career in Poland as a Professor of Art, he moved here some 25 years ago, and it is a fitting acknowledgement of Australia Day that we celebrate his exhibition, his embracement of Australia, and the wealth of talent he creates, the threads of cultural connections to Europe and more recently Japan, representing in some ways the many faceted aspects of what Australians are today.

Michalski brings a tradition of fine painting of architectural spaces, interiors and figures, within urbanised spaces. His highly articulate multi coloured graphs and mazes reference the patterns of suburbs, roofs, highrise facades, roads and cars, or even the crafted patterned screens within traditional Japanese houses. The great strength of his works lies in the balance of spaces and his superb crafting of colours that provide boundaries and framing for these intimate works.

He further entices us with architectural structures that glimpse the careful garden beyond leading us forward.
The Maze is a collection of new works. A master painter, his works encompasses quiet spaces and crafted prisms of spaces, solitude and contemplation.
