Joanne Mott: Fungiverous - Art Collector

Joanne Mott’s new body of work conveys the complex interrelationship between nature and culture and is a celebration of all of what fungi represents, both as a multifarious biological entity and as metaphor. Mott imposes the symmetry-forming process of woodturning upon the organic materiality of timber to produce these colourful and fungal forms. Drawings of white pencil on a ground of black painted paper portray various underground views of mycelium, the root structure of fungi. Melding abstraction and representation, together the sculptures and drawings in Fungiverous present fungi as a manifold and evocative subject to feast upon.
