Johl Dwyer: Dreams of a Chrome T - Art Collector

Johl Dwyer, ‘Cloud 1915’, 2019. Resin, oil, cedar, enamel and acrylic, 62 x 62cm. Courtesy: the artist and Tim Melville Gallery, Auckland.

Dreams of a Chrome T continues Johl Dwyer’s exploration of the ways in which pigment-based colour and light-based colour can meet and intersect.

The exhibition comprises a series of new translucent resin wall sculptures - to which for the first time he has added painted wooden frames - alongside the artist’s continuing series of powder-coated aluminium plinth-based sculptures.

Dwyer writes: “I have always been intrigued by the PANTONE Goe system – created to address the demands of the print and design worlds by providing more than 2000 chromatically-arranged solid colours using just 10 base colours. The inexplicable nature of colour as well as the complexities of colour-matching are the focus of my research in this new body of work.”

Dreams of a Chrome T is Johl Dwyer’s sixth solo exhibition at Tim Melville.
