JOHN OSTER APPOINTED CEO OF INDIGENOUS ART CODE
John Oster appointed CEO of Indigenous art code - Art Collector
|9 May 2011 | John Oster has departed Desart, the peak body for Aboriginal art centres in Central Australia, to take up the newly created post of CEO at the Indigenous Art Commercial Code of Conduct. |
Oster has almost 20 years of arts administration experience, more than half of which has been in the Indigenous sector.
Ron Merkel QC, the chair of Indigenous Art Code, said Oster’s skills would be “invaluable to the code at this critical time in its history”.
The code, which launched in July last year, now has 94 signatories of which 45 are galleries and Aboriginal-owned art centres. Over 40 per cent of the code’s membership are artists.
A full register of members is available on the code’s website.
Oster joins a board which includes Cecilia Alfonso, manager of art centre Warlukurlangu at Yuendemu, and Ian Plunkett, director of Japingka Gallery in Fremantle.
