Joyce Hinterding: Simple Forces - Art Collector

Joyce Hinterding, Loops and Fields: Series 4, 2010. Ink and graphite on paper, 57 x 76cm. Courtesy: the artist and Breenspace, Sydney

Joyce Hinterding's exhibition Simple Forces explores the aesthetics of the electromagnetic environment through a series of conductive graphite drawings and installations. Hinterding approaches these non-human modes of expression through four fundamental forces that are at the heart of existence: gravity, the strong force, the weak force and electromagnetism. What happens when an artist translates invisible forces into compositions? Hinterding works directly with the two axes of physics and aesthetics, immersed in the strange territory between a field and the force it is able to generate.

You can also see Joyce Hinterding's work on the cover on the new issue of
Art Collector magazine, which hits newsstands this week.
