Kathy Keele leaves Australia Council - Art Collector

20 November 2012 | Kathy Keele, CEO of the Australia Council for the past six years, has announced she will be stepping down at the end of the year.

She gave no reason for the decision beyond that the “timing was right”.

The Australia Council’s chair, Rupert Myer, spoke of the “transformative contribution” she has made to the organisation during her tenure.

“Kathy leaves a responsive and highly capable organisation. She has ensured that the council is steadfastly committed to supporting Australian artists, companies and creativity across our nation, our region and beyond, and is at the forefront of research into the value of the arts,” he said.

Her contribution was also recognised by Tamara Winikoff, the executive director of the National Association of Visual Artists, who praised Keele’s willingness to engage with industry bodies like NAVA in developing policy.

A search for Keele’s replacement has now begun.
