Kati Thamo is a highly skilled printmaker with an imagination that fills her work with allegory and visual ambiguity. Drawing on her Eastern European heritage, Kati’s recent works explore the various ways narratives unfold and can change over time. Interweaving her own personal experiences with older family stories, myths and fables, Kati creates new stories and meanings that reflect on the passing of time and place.
s Kati explains, “I play with these ambiguities to create a stranger world, a stranger time – to conjure an elusive past.” Kati is the recipient of numerous awards and in 2013 was a finalist in the Silk Cut Award and Burnie Print Prize. In 2014, she was awarded the Regional Artist Award in the Western Australian Printmedia Awards.
