Lachlan Petra wins $35,000 Dr Harold Schenberg Art Prize at PICA - Art Collector

30 April 2012 | Lachlan Petra won the annual Dr Harold Schenberg Art Prize at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. Petra’s work titled Aggregate, a video projection onto a concave object made from more than 300 plywood facets took out the $35,000 prize.

Petra was one of a select group of emerging artists from the annual graduate show titled
Hatched hosted by PICA. The judging panel consisted of PICA director, Amy Barrett-Lennard, curator of Contemporary Australian Art at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Jenepher Dunca and acting curator of the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art at the University of Western Australia, Lee Kinsella.

PICA director Amy Barrett-Lennard said “when considering an artist for this award the judges were looking for a distinctive and individual approach, a refined visual language, conceptual rigour, technical excellence and clarity of communication”

Honorable mentions from this year’s shortlist includes Sarah Jane Haywood, Amina McConvell and Pip Stafford.
