Latest Kaldor Public Art Project puts your name in lights - Art Collector

18 October 2010 | Kaldor Public Art Projects, backed by philanthropist John Kaldor, is bringing a John Baldessari work out for the Sydney Festival that will see everyone get a chance at 15 seconds of fame.

Baldessari is calling for more than 100,000 people to register so he can put their name up in lights, for 15 seconds each. Located on the external wall of the Australian Museum for all the world to see,
Your Name in Lights is a 30-metre screen that will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for all three weeks of the Sydney Festival.

There are no shortage of wannabes either, with over 10,000 registering their names within a day of the announcement. (You can also
register your own name on the Sydney Festival website.)

Your Name in Lights reflects the changing cult of celebrity in modern society and recalls Andy Warhol's prediction that “in the future everyone will have their fifteen minutes of fame”.

It will be the 23rd Kaldor Public Art Project.
