Leah Anketell: Far From The Madding Cow - Art Collector

In Far from the Madding Cow emerging Byron Bay artist Leah Anketell presents the humble bovine as a metaphor for the human condition. Based loosely on the philosophy expounded in Thomas Hardy's novel Far from the Madding Crowd - which raises serious questions about society, religion, morals, and the contrast between a good life and a real life - Anketell infuses her subjects with all of the angst that comes from living in an age of transition. Contemplating the ache of modernism and its apparent inability to satisfy the emotional needs of the modernised, Anketell's cows are sometimes strong, sometimes perplexed, and always uncomfortably human.
