Leanne Halls: Painting From 3 Steps Back - Art Collector

Leanne Halls, Gunner’s Point. Oil on linen, 62 x 122cm. Courtesy: the artist and Colville Gallery, Hobart

Halls is an artist where the painterly softness is encompassed on a grand scale of the greater landscape. She is not afraid to open our gaze to further ranges, glowering peaks, large dimensions of cloud and skies. There is a sweep and gentle grandeur, we are placed in the scene, we are part of the scale. Similarly, she brings an intimacy with her still life studies, cherished branches and objects have a connection and familiar sense of ease.

Trained at Julian Ashton Art School, she further pursued traditional Japanese painting in Japan for a number of years. These major influences on her work bring a great sensitivity to her depth, volume and the amount of ‘air’ that her works portray. Finalist in a number of awards including Lloyd Rees Art Prize, Eutick Still Life Award, Mortimore and others, Leanne demonstrates a growing reputation and confidence.
