Lorraine Connelly-Northey: Habitat, Habit and Adaptation - Art Collector

Lorraine Connelly-Northey, Narrbong Installation, 2013. Ring lock wire and reinforcing rod and tin, dimensions variable. Courtesy: the artist and Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi, Melbourne

Lorraine Connelly-Northey uses cast-off rusted iron, wires and sheet metal to produce fascinating sculptural forms that recreate the traditional weavings of her mother's Waradgerie culture. Breathing new life into the scrap metal found in farmer's yards around her childhood home on the banks of the Murray River in the Mallee and Riverina districts, she re-envisages the traditional baskets and implements of her hunter-gatherer ancestors.
