Louise Saxton: Sanctuary too - Art Collector

Louise Saxton, Major Tom, 2010 - after John & Elizabeth Gould, 1848. Reclaimed needlework, lace pins and nylon tulle, 69 x 121cm. Courtesy: the artist and Gould Galleries, Melbourne

Louise Saxton is one of the few artists who have had the privilege of holding their debut solo exhibition at the Heide Museum of Modern Art. Sanctuary too is Saxton's first commercial exhibition and will feature works from the Heide show together with new works, all of which are now framed for conservation and hanging.

Saxton’s work is constructed solely from discarded needlework pinned meticulously to nylon tulle, adding another element to the compositions. These elaborate and luminescent artworks depict domestic traditions and vulnerability in nature, consistently drawing upon the concept of home - the major reference point in her practice.
