Madison Bycroft: Catdog - Art Collector

Madison Bycroft, Bureau of Neutrality and the Half Sung (film still), 2017, HD single channel video, 24:00min, courtesy the artist and GAGPROJECTS

Catdog is an exhibition of new work by Madison Bycroft spanning video, sculpture, and image-based works. The exhibition title is borrowed from the American animated TV series (airing 1998-2005) which featured a creaturely entity that embodied the co-existence of a cat and a dog - they are opposed and united at once. Bycroft’s works are both and neither, familiar and not; orbiting the paradox. Where does the mystical meet with matter, and the digital extend the self? The exhibition toys with excess and the rigidity of lines that hold things in place.

Madison Bycroft (born 1987) is a multi-disciplinary artist and lives between Adelaide, Australia and Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Bycroft is a recent graduate of the Piet Zwart Institute of Fine Art, in Rotterdam, supported by the Anne and Gordon Samstag Scholarship. Exhibitions include Creatures of the Mud, Westfälischer Kunstverein, Munster, Germany (2017); The Blue Grey Wall at Physics Room, Christchurch, NZ (2015); Synonyms for Savages at Australian Experimental Art Foundation (2014); Primavera 2014: Young Australian Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; and was an artist-in-residence at ISCP in Brooklyn, New York (2014).
