|Tjingurru is Martha’s first solo exhibition. |
Martha, a Luritja elder is 74 years young and paints at the Papunya Tjupi Art Centre, Papunya.
‘Tjingurru’ roughly translates to mean ‘might be’ and was her response when she was asked if she would like a solo show at RAFT. Martha is the daughter of Shorty Lungata Tjungurrayi one of the original Pintubi men in the Papunya painting group that started the Western Desert painting movement. Martha carries his legacy in her paintings, paying homage to her fathers country ‘Warlukuritji’ in her own unique way.
