Mavis Ngallametta: My Country Six New Paintings - Art Collector

Martin Browne Contemporary is delighted to present an exhibition of six new large-scale paintings by the 2013 Telstra General Painting Award winner Mavis Ngallametta. Inspired by her deep knowledge of country, Mavis depicts in her works the complex maze of spectacular river systems, wetlands and coastlines of the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland.

Ngallametta’s paintings are unique in style, offering viewers the experience of both a macro and micro perspective of the Aurukun region; the wildflowers that bloom; the animals that inhabit the region and the vast and spectacular landscape.

Often referencing cultural knowledge, Ngallametta has developed a painterly voice that joins an ancestral past with the present, stretching boundaries and blurring the distinction between abstraction, art brut, landscape art and story-telling.
