McLean Edwards: Imaginary Friends and Black Portraits - Art Collector

McLean Edwards, The Last Tycoon, 2013. Oil on canvas, 152 x 183cm. Courtesy: the artist and Martin Browne Contemporary, Sydney

Imaginary Friends and Black Portraits showcases McLean Edwards’s singular interpretations of contemporary portraiture. Edwards articulates the eccentricities and foibles of the human condition in paintings that are revealing and often autobiographical. The artist invites (and at times provokes) the viewer to enter into the worlds depicted in his paintings. These worlds are a collision of the personal and the fictional, the familiar and the estranged. As a cheeky and at times controversial guide, Edwards introduces us to his ever-expanding cast of characters - childhood icons, artists, friends and enemies are among those invited to share the stage.
