Melissa Loughnan is beginning a new chapter. Having founded Utopian Slumps gallery at the age of 24, Loughnan saw her gallery grow from a curator-run non-profit initiative to a commercial success story. Seven years on, Loughnan is set to take on the role of director at one of Australia’s preeminent galleries, Anna Schwartz.

Due to begin officially in February 2015, Loughnan’s work with Schwartz will begin with an exhibition at Schwartz’s Sydney gallery in November 2014. Schwartz herself will maintain a significant presence in the running of her galleries, working in collaboration with Loughnan to manage artists and programming.

While the doors of Utopian Slumps are set to close with the expiry of its lease at the end of this year, Utopian Slumps gallery manager Charlotte Cornish will to continue to manage curatorial and consulting projects for the gallery.
