Michael Cusack: Still Life - Art Collector

In this new body of work Michael Cusack presents a series of paintings that are an exploration of form, gesture and space. Cusack applies paint and then rubs it back – scuffing, staining and scratching at the surface – until a poetic and luminous composition appears. Organic shapes are rendered in tonal greys, then layered one after the other to create subtle spatial shifts. These forms are framed by contrasting ambers and burnt oranges that sear the canvas adding light and dimension. Although the colour and form is deliberately reductive, Cusack’s surfaces are evocative and complex. These intricacies allow the viewer to form their own tangential experience.
