Michael Reid to represent Adam Cullen - Art Collector

8 June 2010 | Painter Adam Cullen is now represented by Michael Reid at Elizabeth Bay in Sydney. Cullen was formerly represented in Sydney by Vasili Kaliman's Kaliman Gallery, which closed its doors in March. ''Vasili & I will work together going forward to build Adams career,'' says Michael Reid.

Reid first met Adam in 2000 when judging an art prize together and has been involved in guiding his career ever since. ''He was just about to leave his Sydney gallery and I managed him through the process of obtaining more significant, national representation,'' Reid says.

''I held an exhibition of Adam's work for private clients (at home) in 2001. I then introduced Adam to Jan Minchin at Tolarno Galleries and arranged their meeting. I supported Adam going on board with Kaliman Gallery. At the time I was working from home in Redfern and was ill equipped to represent Adam in the full sense of the term.

''Now, as I have firmly taken on board the representation of more established contemporary artists - John Young, Jason Benjamin & Danie Mellor (to name but a few) - I am in a far greater position to manage Adam's career.''

He adds: ''Adam has an original visual language. For me this is very important. He is an echo of no other.''

Adam Cullen's first solo exhibition with Michael Reid in Sydney is expected to take place in 2011.
