The Moran Arts Foundation have announced artist Louise Hearman and photographer Peta-Anne North as the winners of the People’s Choice Awards for the 2014 Moran Art Prizes, with Hearman and North receiving $1,000 each.
Hearman’s portrait of artist Bill Henson also won the 2014 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, announced in October last year.
North’s photograph Summer Shadows was also widely popular, also taking the People’s Choice Award for photography.
On winning the second Moran Art Prize award for her diptych Henson portrait, Hearman said “Winning this Moran prize has given me such a huge lift… being voted people’s choice has touched me deeply.”
The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize was established as part of Australia’s bi-centennial celebrations in 1988, and has grown to be one of Australia’s biggest art awards.
