Mordant pledges $1m for new Venice pavilion - Art Collector

2 July 2012 | Simon Mordant, commissioner of the Australian presentation for the 2013 Venice Biennale, has pledged $1 million towards the construction of the new pavilion, according to The Art Newspaper.

“We have to have the funding in place by late next year and so we’ve got quite a bit of time,” he told the paper. “We’re still in the early stages but the process is well under way. My family made a commitment before the architect was announced and I’m very confident that the funding task will be completed.”

The new pavilion, to be designed by architects Denton Corker Marshall, will cost $6 million, which will be raised from the private sector. It is planned for completion in 2015.
