Mosman finally unveils Balnaves gift - Art Collector

2 July 2012 | Two years after Neil Balnaves announced he was donating $1 million worth of art to Sydney’s Mosman Art Gallery, the works go on show to the public this week in the exhibition The Balnaves Gift.

It remains the single largest donation ever made to the Mosman art collection. While most donations of this size end up with the larger public and state galleries, Balnaves chose to support Mosman Art Gallery because he is a long-term Mosman resident.

The exhibition features 16 modern and impressionist works including pieces by Australian classics such as Arthur Streeton, Ethel Carrick Fox and Elioth Gruner.

Balnaves has continued to support the gallery by co-funding the salary for a dedicated philanthropy officer.

The exhibition opens 7 July 2012 at the Mosman Art Gallery in Sydney.
