Nana Ohnesorge: Rooted - Art Collector

Nana Ohnesorge, Rooted, Up Rooted, Portrait of Bennelong, 2013. Acrylic and oil on linen, 153 x 183cm. Courtesy: the artist and Hugo Michell Gallery, Adelaide

Nana Ohnesorge's latest work explores what it means to be rooted, up-rooted and pushed to breaking point. In an expansion of a previous exhibition, Ohnesorge continues to explore white Australia’s fraught relationship with its history in narratives that articulate the violent clash of white culture forced upon Aboriginal culture. Rooted also reflects on Ohnesorge’s experience as a migrant and her personal journey of self-discovery, and the role art can play as a conduit for anger and pain caused by life’s experience.
