24 April 2013 | Photographer Shan Turner-Carroll has won the fourth Doctor Harold Schenberg Prize. It is awarded to an artist exhibiting as part of Hatched, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts’ annual exhibition of art school graduates from around the country.

Turner-Carroll's work investigates the influence of celebrity culture on personal identity through photographs of makeshift crowns made from found objects. The prize is worth $35,000 and is intended to allow the Turner-Carroll to further invest in his artistic career.

The judges for this year's award were independent curator Jasmin Stephens, PICA director Amy Barrett-Lennard and University of Western Australia curator Sally Quinn.
Hatched features 37 artists from 20 art schools across Australia and runs until 9 June 2013.
