Neil Pardington: The Order of Things - Art Collector

Sphenodon Punctatus (Tuatara) #3, Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 2013. Pigment inks on Hahnemühle rag, dimensions variable. Courtesy: the artist and Suite Gallery, Wellington

Taking its name from the seminal book by Michel Foucault, The Order of Things documents scientific collections using taxonomy – the science of naming, describing and classifying organisms – as a structure. Each genus is presented as single major work hung en masse in a grid as a visual typology. Each single image can also be considered an individual artwork – a portrait of an individual, or group of specimens.
