Based in Alice Springs, Neridah Stockley has, since 2001, produced an impressive body of work inspired by the desert regions of Central Australia, also undertaking 9 interstate and NT-based residencies to other remote places or coastal cities. Her commitment to painting landscape en plein air is predominantly on a small scale, challenging the overriding assumption that a ‘big country’ requires ‘big pictures’ – or for that matter, big stories. This is Stockley’s first major retrospective exhibition and features paintings, drawings, collages, wooden constructions and prints dating from 1996 to the present, including studio-based works, still-life and domestic subjects.
