New ShContemporary director refocuses attention on Asia - Art Collector

25 October 2010 | Italian publisher Massimo Torrigiani is the new director of the ShContemporary art fair. He replaces Colin Chinnery, the caretaker of the past two editions of the fair, who has resigned to devote more time to his own projects.

Torrigiani is co-founder and director of the Boiler Corporation, a publishing company and creative agency, and has previously been co-editor of international art magazine Boiler and editor-in-chief of Italian style magazine Rodeo.

As director of ShContemporary, Torrigiani says he plans to refocus attention on Asian galleries and partners. “I don't believe in imposed cultural models. I want to listen to the gallerists, artists, collectors, institutions and partners with interest and experience in China and in Asia. Then we will nurture a proficient platform to attract their international counterparts,” he says.

Chinnery will remain involved with the next edition of the fair as a consultant.

ShContemporary 2011 will run from 9 to 11 September 2011.
