30 October 2013 | Curator and art writer Justin Paton has been announced as the incoming head curator of international art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Paton was born in New Zealand and is one of the country's foremost curators. He curated the official New Zealand exhibition by Bill Culbert at this year's Venice Biennale and is currently the senior curator at Christchurch Art Gallery.

At the official announcement, AGNSW director Michael Brand stated that Paton will bring a wealth of expertise to the gallery along with a reputation for highly creative thinking and writing, and that he is delighted Paton is coming onboard as the gallery moves forward with their Sydney Modern masterplan. Paton will commence his position in January 2014.
