Newell Harry: Known/Unknowns - Art Collector

Newell Harry, (Known / Unknowns) Archive of a lost African (Table Mountain, Cape Town: circa. 1980s), gouache on paper, 18.5 x 27.5 cm. Courtesy of the artist and Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery

Newell Harry’s work draws from a loose skein of regions from Oceania and the wider Asia Pacific, to the Indian subcontinent, Northeast Asia and South Africa where his extended family and friends continue to reside. From language, religion and anthropology to the ‘gift economies’ of the South Pacific, these interests often culminate in culturally entangled installations engaging a wide range of processes and media. As post-colonialism and globalism continue to be the foremost concerns of society, Harry’s multidisciplinary artworks form intelligent and witty observations of contemporary society. Known / Unknowns will be Newell Harry’s fourth solo exhibition with Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery.
