Nicholas Folland, ‘Untitled A’, 2018. Copper and crystal vase, 55 x 32 x 32cm. Courtesy: the artist and Tolarno Galleries, Melbourne.

Recently announced as having been selected to exhibit as part of The National: New Australian Art in 2019 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Nicholas Folland presents ‘Dawn Chorus’, his second solo exhibition at Tolarno Galleries this October.
‘Dawn Chorus’ refers the in-between state that heralds the approach of day. It is twilight, a half-light, a period between darkness and daylight. Forms begin to emerge from the surrounds, but without clarity. The new works continue his interest in the allusive and in fragile landscapes, with delicate kinetic installations, crystal vase and copper wire sculptures, and a series of almost imperceptible white-on-white drawings. The works resonate together gently interweaving their forms to create a harmonious, if a little nervy, song.

Exhibition opens: 3–5pm Saturday 6 October 2018

Exhibition closes: 3 November 2018
Location: Tolarno Galleries, Level 4, 104 Exhibition St, Melbourne VIC
