Nick Collerson wins Macquarie Group Emerging Artist Award - Art Collector

Established in 1987 to support emerging Australian artists and comprising of over 700 works, the collection involves themes of the land.

Established artists in the collection were asked to nominate an emerging artist for inclusion in the prize, with Collerson put forward by Guy Maestri.

This year’s award was judged by 2014 Archibald Prize winning artist Fiona Lowry.

Exhibiting with the Hughes Gallery since 2013, Collerson draws his subjects and themes from a personal experience, history and poetry, with the artist stating that his current painting practice “is the natural result of factors … the dislocation resulting from moving, the obscure insights of meditation, as well as the developments that occurred in painting and art during the 20th century”.

Collerson’s paintings On a Clear Day, Night Time Pool and Night Unplugged can be viewed at 1 Martin Place in the Sydney CBD until this Friday 17 October 2014.
