Nicola Dickson: Voyagers’ Tales: Labillardiere - Art Collector

Nicola Dickson, Eastern Spinebill and Anigozantho rufa I, acrylic and oil on linen, 46 x 38.5cm. Courtesy of the artist and Beaver Galleries

Nicola Dickson explores the rich history of Australian flora and fauna through her exquisitely detailed paintings. During a residency in Tasmania, Nicola re-traced the steps of French biologist Jacques Labillardière and these new works take inspiration from his documentation creating delicate imagery of the landscape and the creatures within it. Nicola graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the School of Art at the Australian National University in 2003 before undertaking a PhD which she completed in 2010. Her work is represented in the collections of the Canberra Museum and Gallery and Parliament House.
