Alcaston Gallery presents new bark paintings by Nonggirrnga Marawili in her exhibition Lighting and the Rock.

Nonggirrnga is an esteemed artist at Buku Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre, Yirrkala, Northern Territory. In her highly sophisticated bark paintings and Larrakitj, Nonggirrnga’s organic patterns reflect an engrained, natural understanding of her culture, history and environment. She is continually moving towards unique and contemporary imagery, including cross-hatched motifs and designs from her ancestral clans, which she executes in a highly unique and refined manner.

Nonggirrnga Marawili was a finalist in the 2013 Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize, and the 2014 prestigious 31st Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award. In 2015 she is an invited finalist in the Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards. Her artworks have been collected by the National Gallery of Victoria, The National Gallery of Australia and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and significant private collections in Australia and Internationally.
