On the world stage: art fairs in 2013 - Art Collector

30 January 2013 | The year ahead is set to be a significant one for Australian art on the world stage. Three upcoming art fairs on the international art calender will feature an Australian presence.

India Art Fair 2013 opens tomorrow and runs until 3 February. Approximately 100 galleries are participating in the fair's fifth edition. Greenaway Art Gallery from Adelaide, one of the two Australian galleries invited, is showcasing work by Ariel Hassan, Santiago Sierra and Hossein Valamanesh.

Art Dubai 2013 will take place from 20 March until 23 March at Madinat Jumeirah. The Australian participation at the fair will be:

  • Greenaway Art Gallery, exhibiting Ariel Hassan, Hossein Valamanesh and Mat Collishaw.
  • Sutton Gallery, exhibiting Gordon Bennett, Lindy Lee, Raafat Ishak and Nusra Latif Qureshi.
  • ARNDT gallery, showing a solo project with Wim Delvoye.
  • Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro will be presented by San Francisco's Gallery Wendy Norris.

Next on the calendar is the first edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, formerly Art HK. In the Galleries sector, the main section of the fair, will be Jensen Gallery and Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery from Sydney, as well as Melbourne-based Murray White Room.

The Insights sector showcases 47 galleries from Asia and the Asia Pacific. The Australian galleries are:

  • Sullivan + Strumpf, showing a Penny Byrne solo
  • dianne tanzer gallery +projects, presenting a solo exhibition by Juan Ford
  • Neon Parc will be presenting Katherine Huang
  • Tolarno Galleries is showing Martin Bell and Brendan Huntley
  • Ryan Renshaw from Brisbane will exhibit Rodney Glick and New Zealand artist Peter Madden.

The Discoveries sector features only one Australian gallery, Utopian Slumps, who will exhibit Sanné Mestrom.

Art Basel Hong Kong will take place from 23 May until 26 May 2013.
