Paul Gundry: Haunts - Art Collector

Paul Gundry, Arise 2017 Oil on linen 20 x 30cm. Courtesy the artist.

Haunts is inspired by the world outside my front door in the cold, early light of

frosty winter mornings of suburban Hobart, placing my work in subtle

collusion with TV and cinema genres – mystery, suspense, Sci-Fi, and horror.

I aim to present the suburban landscape in a state of calm that is both

eerie and unnerving, to reveal the commonplace and the everyday as simultaneously strange and familiar, to imbue its objects with a presence that is perhaps not readily apparent

in the context of routine perception. Likewise, the cars that are either parked in, or moving through the landscape are apparitions that haunt the present.

Paul Gundry BA, BFA UTAS, has achieved serious consideration across Australia with Winner Tas Art Award, as well as Finalist in numerous national awards including; The

Glover, Mossman, Paddington, Hadley’s and Lloyd Rees Art Prizes.
