Paul Ryan is a 13 time Archibald finalist. This is an exhibition of new paintings in two parts - portraits of HM the Queen, and landscape paintings of the northern Illawarra where Ryan has resides.

There are five portraits of Queen Elizabeth. She still cuts a remarkably strong and dignified figure in her nineties. The works play with this paradox. As our head of state, the Queen is a symbol of our British heritage and the colonisation of Australia by the British in 1788. For this reason she represents different things to different people. Ryan is not a Monarchist, but nevertheless finds her a fascinating subject.

The landscape works are a continuation of a series he has been painting for 30 years. He surfs daily and watches the landscape as it changes in different weather conditions.
