19 September 2012 | This year’s Geelong Contemporary Art Prize has been announced, with Paul Ryan’s diptych Wild colonial boys winning the 2012 biennial acquisitive award for contemporary painting.

Ryan was announced the winner by guest judge Susan McCulloch, an art writer and curator. McCulloch says that
Wild colonial boys “reflects a truly contemporary view on a fundamentally important and often uncomfortable subject”.

A total of 45 works from this year’s prize entries have been selected for the finalists exhibition, which is on display at Geelong Gallery until 18 November 2012.
