Paul Spencer: Memories and Monuments - Art Collector

Paul Spencer, Nostalgia, 2017, oil on linen, 137.5 x 185.5cm. Courtesy of the artist and Sophie Gannon Gallery

Paul Spencer describes his paintings of the natural world as ‘monuments to insignificant moments’ that commemorate the prosaic and acknowledge beauty and form in our everyday surroundings. Using a kaleidoscope of bright and acidic colours and repeated forms, Spencer paints plants and exotic flowers amongst geological formations. Spencer’s style is deliberate and methodical, drawing the eye to his extreme close-ups of his subjects.
Spencer has exhibited in Melbourne and Sydney and at regional galleries including Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Geelong Gallery. His work is held in the Artbank collection and in public and private collections throughout Australia.
