Peter Cooley: Environment, Colour, Tone - Art Collector

Peter Cooley, 'Lyrebird 5', 2017/18, earthenware, 59 x 44 x 43 cm. Courtesy of the artist and Martin Browne Contemporary, NSW.
Environment, Colour, Tone is an exhibition of contemporary ceramics by Peter Cooley that are inspired by the landscapes, animals and birds that surround his home in the Blue Mountains’ town of Leura.

Cooley’s latest majolica ceramics explore the terrain between abstraction and realism, object and painting - and, not least, between the tactile and the ethereal.

Cooley’s Lyrebirds, Rosellas and Marsupials are reduced to their simplest forms while the clay is hollowed out, flattened or expressively rippled to suggest the essence of these Australian animals.
