Peter Mungkuri & Alec Baker: Kunpu Mayatja Kutjara – Two Strong Culture Bosses - Art Collector

Peter Mungkuri & Alec Baker, Ngura (Country), 2017, synthetic polymer paint on linen, 198 x 243 cm. Courtesy the Artists, Iwantja Arts and Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne

It is with much anticipation that Alcaston Gallery presents an exhibition of new paintings by Alec Baker and Peter Mungkuri. From the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of South Australia the artists have become increasingly sought after due to the strength of their painted compositions born from the stories of their lives and knowledge of their beloved country. The intricate detail and expertly choreographed dance of colour translates on to canvas the powerful presence and spirituality of the APY landscape painted uniquely in their own individual styles, and with profound harmony within the important large-scale collaborative paintings presented in this show.
