Peter Smets: In The Spotlight - Art Collector

Peter Smets, Evening, 2014. Oil on canvas, 110 x 140cm. Courtesy: the artist and Anthea Polson Art, Gold Coast

Smets' nightscapes depict a meditative quietude. Mystery and a sense of transformation reign as the familiar becomes altogether altered with the fading light of day. The way light falls on objects and the shadows cast by its absence are of prime importance to Smets. "Light is like blood running through the veins, it makes the work live. Without light a painting is dead," he declares.
