Peter Thomas: Manipulations - Art Collector

Peter Thomas, The Yeti. 2017. Enamel, varnish and acrylic on wool felt on panel
96 x 76cm. $2,800. Courtesy of The Artist and Fox Galleries, Victoria.

To create this new body of work, Peter Thomas buried written reflections about addiction, intergenerational trauma and trust within layers of wool felt and mixed media. Then he cut, ripped, shot at and attacked his surfaces with an axe.

Referencing Joseph Beuys’ notorious WWII plane crash after which Tatar tribesman saved him by wrapping him in felt, Thomas’ felt is at once a canvas, a page in a journal, and a body, all of which endure discordant cycles of damage, trauma and recovery.
