THIS IS NO FANTASY artist Petrina Hicks was announced as the winner of the Bowness Photography Prize 2014.

Petrina’s winning work,
Venus, was selected for the $25,000 prize that was awarded by the Monash Gallery of Art Foundation.

A previous winner of the Josephine Ulrick Photography Award for Portraiture, Fisher's Ghost Art Award and ABN Amro Emerging Artist Award, Hicks’ work is held in major collections at the Art Gallery of Australia in Canberra, National Gallery of Victoria, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Petrina’s work is known for its sculptural forms and specific attention to detail. Her subjects, often people or objects, are loaded with symbolism, existing in a placeless reality.

Her winning work, along with the finalists of the prize, will exhibit at the Monash Gallery of Art until 12 October 2014.
